Association Advocacy Day

Update on ESSAE In-Person Events

To the ESSAE Members & Community: Though the Coronavirus crisis has made for unsettling times, each day we learn more and create plans to move forward. Like you, we’re following advice and guidelines from our partners at ASAE, the CDC, and the New York governor’s office surrounding precautionary measures. The health and wellbeing of our staff, attendees, partners, and community comes first, which is why, as of April 3, 2020, we’ve decided to postpone all upcoming in-person events until further notice

Join the Empire State Society of Association Executives (ESSAE) and the New York Society of Association Executives (NYSAE) for Association Advocacy Day in Albany, NY on April 21.

Association Advocacy Day
Tuesday, April 21, 2020

Orientation:              9:00 – 9:30 a.m.
Lunch on Own:         Approx. 12:30 p.m.
Appointments:         10:00 a.m. – approx. 3:00 p.m.

Please join us for this important NYS effort!

The goal of the ESSAE-NYSAE Association Advocacy Day is to raise awareness of the importance and impact of associations to the life and success of New York State, as well as heighten awareness by elected officials that ESSAE and NYSAE are the “go-to” resources on all matters relating to associations in New York State.

Whether you are a veteran of the Hill or a first-timer, ESSAE & NYSAE will prepare you for the day. Should you have a connection with a particular Legislator, let us know that too, as it will help us further our message.

  • We will have teams making the rounds.
  • Each team will be led by an experienced advocate.
  • Appointments will be set-up for you.
  • We will hold an orientation session to discuss our plans for the day and key talking points.
  • Appointment drop-off materials will be provided.
  • Attendees will receive a “Know-Before-You-Go” packet containing the schedule, meeting locations, directions and information on parking and lunch options.

Make the most of your time in Albany! While here, if you’ve made an appointment for your own association, you can feel free to break from our group and return.

There is no registration cost to join the group that day. Attendees are responsible for their own transportation to/from Albany, accommodations and lunch. Come dressed for success - and ready to talk about what you do each day - and the power of associations in New York State!

Is there a legislative agenda? Will we be lobbying?

The goal for the day is to educate Legislators on the real impact of associations on the state. The ESSAE Government Affairs Committee is currently researching and crafting a “New York Associations by the Numbers” document.  This will be our lead-in piece—then we want attendees to talk about their particular association and tout its achievements in order to reinforce the overall message.

The ESSAE Government Affairs Committee is monitoring legislative activity and if any bills are identified that could impact the work of associations, we would include this information and position in our efforts.

Whether you are a veteran of the Hill or a first-timer, the ESSAE Government Affairs Committee will have everything prepared for the day.
